Midland is a city in the Permian Basin area of Texas with a population of roughly 140,000. Its motto is “Feel the Energy!” because the city is deeply intertwined with the oil industry. Midland was established in 1881 under the name “Midway” due to its role as a centrally located midway point along the Texas and Pacific Railway. The city’s history turned a new direction when oil was discovered in 1923, transforming Midland into the administrative center for all West Texas-area oilfields.
